Girls’ hardball cricket participation and success is on the increase at Okehampton College. The U13 girls’ team are due to play Exeter School in the County semi final on Tuesday 22nd June. They have reached this stage of the competition having beaten Shebbear College and Blundells convincingly in the previous rounds.
With the increase in participation and the introduction by Devon Cricket to girls’ hardball competitions there was a shortage of suitable, quality playing/safety equipment. A huge thank you must go to The David Shepherd Cricket Trust, for their extremely generous grant of £500 to support the development of girls’ cricket at Okehampton College and at the surrounding community clubs. With that money we have been able to purchase playing equipment from a local company, Wombat Cricket. We have bought, bats, pads, gloves, thigh pads and helmets, all this equipment has been very gratefully received and has really given the girls great confidence when playing, this is clearly benefitting their development and enjoyment for the game.
