On Thursday 24th February Mrs Bertram and Mr Every took 26 Year 12 A-level Biology students to the Eden Project. They enjoyed a pleasant and informative day and were able to see first hand the enormous variety of plant life that exists in more distant parts of the world and learn about some of the amazing strategies that some of these use in order to survive and reproduce. They were given a talk by Eden staff entitled ‘Biodiversity Under Threat’ and followed this with time exploring the diverse flora of the two biomes and outside areas. They also discovered some of the challenges facing some species and the impact that their lack of survival would have on us. A blooming lovely day was had by all!
During October Half Term the Geography Department took 50 Year 11 and Year 13 students on our first fieldtrip to Iceland. Iceland is a geographer’s dream with tectonics, spectacular coastlines and high human impact- it didn’t disappoint! The students were an asset to the College throughout; hard working, polite and engaged in their learning at every stop on our trip. Going to Iceland means that these students have a large number of experiences to draw on in their upcoming GCSEs and A Level exams.
