Our site is adjacent to Dartmoor National Park enabling us to take pupils onto the moor as one of their cross-country courses.

PE Kit Checklist (click here)
All students are expected to wear the branded blue and yellow Okehampton College polo shirt with plain black or navy bottoms (these can be tracksuit bottoms, leggings, shorts, or a skort); and trainers. We would recommend they change their socks for PE to plain white sport socks or navy and gold long football socks. We have additional items or branded kit that pupils may wear if they wish to help them remain warm and dry.
Pupils are always allowed to wear warm layers underneath their branded items of any colour or material. In cold or wet conditions staff will allow students to wear a coat and we therefore suggest students pack a coat during these times. For further details click here
Students should remember that all jewellery must be removable for PE (including piercings) for Health and safety reasons.
Long hair should be tied up for health and safety reasons
All students should bring PE kit to all lessons, even if they are physically unable to participate as they will be involved in the lesson in a different role.

Physical Education KS3 Curriculum Content
YEAR 7, 8 & 9
Assessment at KS3
Assessment in Physical Education is completed entirely through classwork.
Students self assess against our lesson criteria every lesson with the class teacher observing and completing a summative assessment at the end of each unit of work.
The assessment is based around our 4 strands -
SC1 – Fitness Levels
This strand will focus on health of our students. Identifying their current fitness levels and areas for improvement. For lifelong health and involvement in physical activity it is crucial students maintain a good basic level of fitness along with the confidence to push themselves hard during exercise.
SC2 - Skill
This strand will focus on pupils playing ability in the sports and activities we cover. This includes their ability to perform skills in isolation and competitive situations.
SC3 – Knowledge
This strand will focus on the knowledge students can show and demonstrate. Their awareness of tactical approaches to success, their decision -making during performances and the ability to identify both theirs, and others, strengths and weaknesses.
SC4 - Values
This strand will focus on students' sporting values. Their ability to take part with honesty, resilience, motivation and determination.

KS4 Curriculum Content
YEAR 10 & 11
At Key Stage 4 all of our students continue to study core PE lessons. These lessons are focussed on further developing their skills and experiences, broadening the range of activities they are able to take part in and giving them the knowledge and confidence to participate independently in regular physical activity outside of and beyond school.
Year 10 & 11 Examination Options
Many of our students choose to further their sporting studies and enable themselves to pursue a career in sport and health industries by studying a Level 2 Sports Course as one of their GCSE Options. We currently offer 2 different courses -
AQA GCSE PE
The GCSE PE course involves students being assessed in both their physical playing ability and theoretical knowledge.
The physical element consists of students being marked in 3 sports, demonstrating isolated skills and competitive situations. This comes from a wide range of sports, some of which are completed in school and some which students may choose to complete in their own time such as equestrian and skiing.
The Theoretical component consists of 2 exams.
Paper 1 – Human Body and Movement
Paper 2 – Sociocultural influences and well-being in physical activity.
Cambridge National in Sport Studies. Level 2
This course is assessed through a combination of practical assessment, written courseork and an examination.
Students are assessed practically in their playing ability in 2 sports as well as their ability to plan and lead a session to a group of young people.
A coursework unit is completed on Sports and the Media
An exam on Contemporary Issues in Sport.

Extra-Curricular Sport
Sport plays a very important part in life at Okehampton College. We have many successful teams and individuals competing at local, county and national competitions. Sports Leaders from all year groups help to run sports festivals and competitions for our local primary school children.
Clubs are held throughout the year and cover a range of sports. All clubs are free of charge and open to all students regardless of ability or experience. Late buses run on a Tuesday and Thursday evening leaving from the college drive at 4.45pm. Extra-curricular provision within the department is revised each half term. This is shared with students via the tutor system and class charts.
Students may be selected to represent school teams on fixtures if they have been attending a club, this will be communicated home via letter and the students.
Any queries please contact Mr Bailey – Subject Leader of PE at Okehampton College on [email protected]
