Computer Science & ICT

Computer Science and ICT is currently taught in purpose built computer suites, four of which are located in the main Technology block. These suites are all equipped with HP Touchsmart Windows 7 workstations.

KEYSTAGE 3
All students in Years 7 and 8 undertake dedicated Computer Science lessons as we follow the National Curriculum requirements for Computing.  Using Office 365 students undertake a diverse range of topics aimed at building skills and confidence in using computers to solve problems.  Developing computational thinking helps students to understand how they can use hardware and software to create solutions to real life problems.

KEYSTAGE 4
All students in Keystage 4 have the opportunity to pursue a qualification in either ICT or Computer Science if they so wish.  Currently, we are delivering the OCR iMedia Certificate using ICT along with the OCR Computer Science 9-1 GCSE.  These have proved to be a popular choice with students as the ICT qualification allows students the creative use of computers alongside traditional business skills taught.  The GCSE in Computer Science is a hugely dynamic course that lifts the lid on how computers operate and manage data, along with providing an opportunity to learn a programming language and develop a range of current software development skills.

KEYSTAGE 5
At Keystage 5 students interested in exploring career opportunities in the ICT industry can undertake the Cambridge Technicals qualification in ICT which is a challenging and innovative programme of study involving ICT applications and programming.  Also available is the OCR A Level Computer Science course which builds upon knowledge and understanding already aquired in the GCSE course.

Many of our students go on to successfully pursue degree courses in the IT and Computing industry.
