Structure of the course
Stage 1 (Summer Task – Deadline for completion first lesson in September). If you pass your Summer Task, then we accept you on the course for a three-week trial period – this is to make sure the course suits you. Stage 2 Teacher led unit - you will be introduced to a large range of photography disciplines and techniques in teacher led workshops. At the end of the programme of study you will present a mini final piece that collates what you have learnt so far. Stage 3 Exam led unit- you will then reflect on your strengths and areas of interest and select a stimulus word from the exam paper. You will develop your skills, producing a digital sketchbook for the project and work towards a final piece/s which will be produced during the 15 Hr exam conditions period. Stage 4 Start your personal investigation which is a practical project based on an idea, issue, concept or theme that interests you. Stage 5 A Level Exam papers are issued in February, you will then only work on this Exam project. You will reflect on your strengths and areas of interest and select a stimulus word from the exam paper. You will showcase your skills, producing a digital sketchbook for the project and work towards a final piece/s which will be produced during the 15hr exam conditions period. Once this time frame is over, you will not have another opportunity to work on this project. The outcomes/mounting/display etc of your final piece must be completed within the 15hr timeframe. You will need to have your own: - Memory Stick (16G minimum) - SD Camera card (16G minimum) - SD Card reader - You will have to print your own final glossy prints at the end of each project, either online or from a photo lab eg. Jessops. These will also need to be mounted and presented professionally (during the exam, this will need to be done within the controlled time). Total estimated cost: Year 1 - £100 minimum Year 2 - £100 minimum Students who have their own DSLR camera will have more flexibility when out and about taking images but having your own camera is not a requirement of the course. However, students cannot always expect the school cameras to be available when they need them and will have to book them out. This is the case for all schools/colleges. |
